From squalid squat to family home

When I purchased this house in March 2009 I was both excited and terrified. To quote my father I had bought a "favela" but I knew the bones were good. The previous owner was a hoarder who had lived there for 60 years. The flank wall and chimneys were bulging out and the rear of the property was literally slipping away. Various lean-to extensions had been tacked on to the rear over the years prior to planning permission - It was a sight to be seen! The only jewel worth retaining and restoring was the beautiful curved handrail.

......and that was then......
